Moonlit Magic: 5 Ways to Bring Back the Magic as an Adult (and Heal Your Inner Child in the Process)

There’s something about October that feels like stepping into a memory. The crisp air, the crunch of leaves, the glow of pumpkins on porches. Suddenly I’m transported back to class parties with too much sugar, the thrill of choosing a costume, the fun of themes and variety that made the world sparkle with possibility.

Even now, without kids of my own, the holidays stir that sense of excitement and play. I love watching moms recreate the magic for their little ones — the costumes, the decorations, the themed snacks for class parties. But here’s the truth: as beautiful as that is, it doesn’t heal your inner child.

You can create magic for everyone else until you’re exhausted, but the little girl inside you is still waiting to feel it too.

And here’s the kicker — giving her that chance isn’t frivolous. It’s actually healing. Movement, play, joy, curiosity… they light up your brain, soothe your nervous system, and reconnect you to yourself in ways that no glass of wine or pumpkin spice latte ever could (though I’ll occasionally take a chai latte, thanks).

So, how do you bring back the magic when you’re juggling careers, families, businesses, and everything else? It doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are five ways to start:

1. Give Yourself Permission to Play

Play reduces stress hormones and boosts creativity. Dance in your kitchen, carve a pumpkin for no reason, make the Halloween costume you wish you had as a kid. Play doesn’t need a purpose — the point is joy.

2. Create Rituals That Spark Joy

Kids thrive on rituals, and adults are no different. Add small, joyful rituals into your week: a candle before journaling, a favorite playlist while you cook, or a mini “dance break” after finishing a project. These little sparks keep your inner child alive.

3. Move Like No One’s Watching

Movement heals where words can’t. Dance and gentle somatic movement regulate mood, reduce anxiety, and improve neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to adapt and grow). In other words, moving your body literally rewires your brain for joy.

4. Follow Your Curiosity

Remember trying things simply because they looked fun? Follow that instinct again. Pick up the paintbrush, wander through a bookstore, or learn something just because. Curiosity is how your inner child reminds you she’s still here.

5. Make Time for Your Magic

This one’s the hardest. You’re used to making time for everyone else. But healing, growth, and joy require space. Even ten minutes carved out for movement, play, or stillness can become the pathway back to yourself. Think of it as maintenance for your spirit.

A Gentle Invitation

You don’t have to wait for a milestone or a vacation to feel magic again. You can create it right now — and as you do, you’ll notice your spirit lightening, your relationships deepening, and your connection to yourself growing stronger.

And if you’d like some help along that path, you’re warmly invited to join us in The Jewelbox Society — where this month, we’re exploring Moonlit Magic, a theme designed to help you heal, play, and rediscover your own inner sparkle. ✨
